The Opportunity Cost Engine
So basically opportunity cost is literally the most important thing in finance but nobody understands it. Like bro, let's say you buy a stupid designer jacket for two thousand dollars because you want to look cool on instagram. You didn't just lose two thousand dollars. You literally lost all the money that two thousand dollars could have made you if you put it into the S&P 500 or Bitcoin for the next ten years. It's actually crazy how much money we throw away on dumb stuff ngl.
I made this engine because my friend bought a brand new car off the lot, and it literally depreciated by like twenty percent the exact second he drove it home. If he just bought a used car and put the difference into an index fund, he would literally have hundreds of thousands of dollars when he retires. Every time you spend money, you are making a choice. You are choosing to buy a pair of shoes instead of buying a piece of Apple stock. And tbh, Apple stock actually pays you back, but those shoes are just going to get dirty.
This calculator ruins your life by showing you exactly how rich you would be if you didn't buy stupid stuff. You type in what you bought, how much it cost, and it mathematically projects how much money you missed out on by not investing it. It's literally the biggest guilt trip ever but it will definitely make you stop wasting money on fast food and subscriptions you don't even use.
The math of regret
We literally just take the money you wasted and compound it over a time horizon using standard benchmark yields like the stock market average.
Opportunity_Loss = Cost_Basis * (1 + Benchmark_Growth_Rate)^Years
